Why cell-based assay?

The assay using the live cells is emerging as preferred tool both for basic and applied research compared to other competing method such as animal use. Currently, it is widely used for high throughput screening (HTS) for gene expression and small molecule drug. Moreover, when combined with 3D-cell culture technique, this cost-effective and fast approach becomes more attractive, which all together enhances research activities and the growth of the market.

Cell metabolism analysis

The cell metabolism analysis among various cell-based assays is a technology for understanding metabolic pathways of aerobic respiration of mitochondria and glycolysis. It measures hydrogen ion(H+) and dissolved oxygen(DO), which are important parameters of cell metabolism and analyzes Oxygen Consumption Rate(OCR) of cell and ExtraCellular Acidification Rate(ECAR).

Core technologies on CyteSens series

① Highly sensitive microplate coated with fluorescence

Optimized manufacturing process is adapted to make the bio-compatible DO/pH sensing membrane. The patch-type membrane sensors are specially designed to block unnecessary noise signals from extraneous light and other interfering factors that reduces the stability of sensing and provides functions as a light barrier and a high-refractive reflection film that allow DO and pH to be sensed faster by the sensing membrane.

② Optical sensing system and Auto-calibration algorithm

To make up for limitations of the conventional methods of using expensive and complex optical system, we designed a simple optical system using LED and photodiode, ensuring reliable operation at a reasonable cost.

In order to compensate for the deviation of the physical characteristics of the LEDs and photodiodes, our own algorithm has been applied to adjust the LED light intensity and operating time so that the amount of detected fluorescence for each well is within an acceptable range.

③ Automatic reagent injection by precise syringe pump

By pre-injecting the necessary reagents into the installed substrate containers, users can program the amount of the reagent to be precisely injected into each well and the timing of the injection, which enables the reaction to be measured in real time without any manual intervention during the experiment.
